There is no better time of year and no better place to be in the summertime than here in Southwest Michigan. The start of the summer season always means a flurry of activity around the area with lots of festivals, events, etc. but the comparatively mild Midwest summertime weather can’t be beat either!
What a wonderful morning it was at the Kingsley House today. The tulips and daffodils are blooming and the muffins are hot. This was the first weekend we had an almost full house and the first time I really got to cook for a crowd, You may think I’m crazy but I love it.

It’s that time of year again when the tulips begin to open and show there vibrant colors to our lakeshore community. The Holland Tulip Festival begins tomorrow and there will be thousands of people descending on our area to join in the festivities. The streets and sidewalks of Holland are lined with tulips of all shapes and colors. Besides the tulips there are many reasons to visit Holland during the festival. There will be parades, wooden shoe making, art shows, the Tulip Time Run and entertainment of all kinds.

As I walked the grounds at the Kingsley House yesterday I spotted something move out of the corner of my eye. Upon closer examination I spied three frogs soaking in the rays in our garden pond. You know it’s truly Spring when you see these green critters lounging about. Take a look at this shot I took with my IPhone. Can you spot the three frogs?

The forecast for Saugtuack Michigan and the surrounding area is finally showing 70′s for the first time in FIVE months. We are all so excited that Spring and Summer are on the way!
We are extremely excited that our new Innkeepers Sue Dow and Eric Chaitin have started this week at the Kingsley House! Sue is an accomplished Chef, has written cookbooks and teaches cooking classes as well. Eric has been in the restaurant business for quite some time and also brings a wealth of culinary knowledge to the table. We certain that our guests are going to be very spoiled with the two of them at the helm. WELCOME to Sue and Eric!!
After a good soaking rain today, it is especially more apparent that our bulb plants of tulips, daffodils and irises are all anxious to get this Spring season going. With the forecasted rains of this week, we are sure that they will continue their quest.
